Safety Equipment for gardeningYou will find just about all gardeners will use some sort of gardening equipment. Actually, without gardening equipment is will be very hard to have a garden at all. The gardening equipment you might need depends on a few things: firstly, how big your garden is; secondly, do work in your garden all day or do you need easy maintenance; thirdly, how much can you do; and last but not least, how big is your budget. All gardeners will have gardening equipment that is needed for cultivating, although their tools might not be the most high-tech or costly. You can use both hand-held and power tools for cultivating your garden. Your choice depends on the kind of garden you would like to create. Shovels, rakes, trowels, spading forks and diggers are very common hand tools to use. You don’t have to be particularly strong to use hand tools, and they will come in handy in getting the garden prepared for planting. You can also use tools like a pickaxe, mattock or wheel cultivator. Hard work in your garden is made easy by using power tools, although you will spend more money on them than on hand tools. However, the first tool to add to your gardening equipment is the tiller. Before you can plant, use a tiller to lift up the soil and break it, mix in any compost or fertilizer and chop any left over debris. You can rent a tiller as a one off, or hire a gardener to do it for you if you don’t want to purchase a tiller. Chippers, chain-saws and garden shredders are power tools that some people also find very useful. You will also need pruning tools, as they are important in maintaining your hedges and shrubs, as well as small trees. Pruning shears can be used for branches of up to ¾” thick, but you will need lopping shears for branches up to approximately a couple of inches. If you need to prune high above the ground, maybe as high as 15 feet, you can use a pole pruner. For the more advanced gardener there are heavier pruning tools like pruning saws and hedge shears. As rain doesn’t always seem to fall when you would like it to, you need gardening equipment for watering, or your plants might not survive dry periods. A water hose is most probably the first thing on your list, maybe followed by other watering equipment. You can also use drip irrigation hoses, or a sprinkler. If you don’t mind spending more money, you could even invest in a timer for drip hoses or sprinklers. It won’t be particularly pleasant to maintain a garden without any gardening equipment at all. Even people who like getting some dirt under their nails when digging in the soil for planting flowers, they are most likely to still have a hoe and a rake, as part of the most basic gardening tool collection. Gardening equipment is equally important to the plants, seeds and soil.
